  • Gerry also mentioned the club also has a Facebook page Newton Seniors Computer Club
  • Techies Alta, Angus, Gerry, Victor then came up for open mic questions from the floor. There were several computer related questions, a couple of highlights are:

Computer Security:  Windows 11 comes with Defender and that is adequate.  If you add a purchased anti virus, you may find it slows your computer down, they fight each other.  If you disable Defender and then take the purchased anti virus program off Defender will automatically enable itself.

Always remember to back up your computer often.

VPN – The best ones to buy are NORD and Expressway.  Having a VPN system on your devices can allow more privacy as to locations.  Without VPN someone could see within the block of where you are.

There was mention of a show on CBC Marketplace – Episode 13 – Gaming the System – March 7, 2025

[Marketplace investigate shows much information you’re giving away when playing mobile games, and where that information ends up.  We uncover the methods app developers use to keep kids playing for as long as possible – and expose loopholes in the laws meant to protect children’s privacy.]

Meeting ended at 3:00pm
