Tony asks, " I have waited to install Windows 10 to avoid any "bugs" that still needed fixing. Is it safe to upgrade now?"

Yes it's safe to upgrade, Tony but please ensure that you have backed up your computer first. There is always a chance that something might go wrong...like the power might go out!. I wouldn't want you to lose any of your data. I would feel like crawling under my nest ! I would recommend you take the class [Are you Ready To Upgrade?]. It also might be a good idea to talk to people who have already upgraded their computer to learn from their experience. Why not go in to our Monday drop-in session to get more information.

Joan asks, " I don't like all those tiles on the Windows 10 Start page. Is there a way to get rid of them?"

This is not a tough one Joan. All you have to do is [right click] on each tile and left click on [ Unpin from Start ] . Do this for as many of the tiles you don't want to use. You can even unpin ALL the tiles and have a start menu that looks very similar to Windows 7...no tiles at all ! Please be aware that unpinning a tile is NOT the same as uninstalling a tile. If you don't want a tile but want to use the App from time to time...just unpin it and locate the App in the search menu or the start menu [ all apps] list. If you have no use for the App and never want to use it...then UNINSTALL it by right clicking on the tile and left click on [uninstall]

so in short:

A tile is simply a fancy shortcut to a Program/App, Folder or Website

UNPIN = You may want to use but do not want a tile on the start menu

UNINSTALL = You never want to use the Program/App AND want to get ride of the tile.

Hope this helps,

Gertrude

Donna asks, "Please Gertrude, I need to know how to edit passwords and email addresses that I have in my Norton Identity Vault. I will be forever grateful and will never eat any goose.

Hi Donna, Norton Identity Vault is a very useful and secure free program for storing your passwords and email addresses, as well as credit card info, passport info, etc.

To edit your passwords and email addresses, open your logins ,click on the one you want to change, then click on the box at the right side of its name. You will see "edit" beside the box. Click on it, this will open a new page which will be UNDER your open page. Minimize your open page to reveal it, then make your changes.

Good luck,

Gertrude

Myrna wants to know when to use the Snipping Tool and when to use a Bookmark.

Myrna, these are two very different tools and its useful to know how to use them.

Snipping Tool - very useful for selecting a portion of a webpage, like a photo, a recipe, or something that you want to share with someone, without sending them the entire webpage.

Bookmarks - a way to save an entire website for future reference. In your browser's Bookmarks or Favorites folder, you can create categories such as Travel or Computer Info. While Snipping is a good way to save a single recipe, a Bookmark will save an entire website where you might have found many recipes that interest you.

I hope this helps.
